Awaiting results

I've read the whole of this thread and it's been really informative and helpful. I went to see gp as my nipple felt wrong and sore like burning or itching for 3 weeks. She examined me and found 'lumpy areas' on the same breast and the area is sore (if you poke it!). I was referred to breast centre and had a mammogram yesterday. Unfortunately they are not doing it all on one day anymore and I will have to wait for another appointment within another 2 weeks for results. I feel such a drama queen for being so anxious. My friends have nearly all had scares and are OK and don't seem to have been so bothered. I'm still working though, I'm not that distressed, more a weight in my chest and stomach. I'm 53. Much love to those also still waiting (and those diagnosed).

Seem to have posted this not where I expected!

  • Hi Coffee1968

i'm in a similar position to you. Itchy/burning right breast for about two weeks. Saw GP yesterday and found thickened tissue near/under nipple. She put me on 'fast track' for mammogram/scan - I should be seen within two weeks.

Did they find anything on your mammogram? Would have thought if they did they would tell you straight away - did they say why you have to wait two weeks for results?

Hope you're OK - GP told me in 90% of these cases it is not cancer so I'm trying to remain hopeful but such an anxious time.

Love to you and others in this position x

  • They just did the mammogram no comments no results, awaiting call back still. Apparently they used to do it all on the day but now they only do mammogram and call back. I think because of Covid and not keeping you in the breast centre for 3 hours plus. Sorry you're in similar position. I'm anxious but hopeful it will all be OK.

Good luck to you, any date yet?

  • hope you both are okay. I too have been referred urgently to the breast clinic due to swelling and tenderness on left side near armpit. Plus sensitive skin side of left breast, really a read it's going to be cancer and that it's spread because of the tenderness near armpit. My appointment is on Thursday, I was calm before as didn't think it was anything to worry about but now I'm really worried it will show cancer. Think I'm scared as I lost my sister to cancer.

  • I'm. Sorry, that does sound scary, especially after losing your sister - I'm so sorry for your loss. Do you know whether you'll get results on the day or not? I knew I wouldn't which helped a bit. I hope Thursday goes well for you. X

  • Thank you, no idea kind of hoping I will. I just want to know and my anxiety is up the roof

  • Coffee1968 glad you've had your mammagram, fingers crossed all will be OK. Do let us know how you get on. I'm still waiting for mine and it's been almost a week.

Mummyoftwo2021 i'm the same re anxiety levels. 95% of the time i'm fine but 5% of the time i'm in terror. Really hard to deal with but guess its normal to feel like that and we just have to live through it. Everyone tells me the waiting is the worst bit, but i'm so pessimistic i'm not so sure : (

I've found keeping busy really helps, also excercise (i walk/run) but the latter not always possbile if you have kids at home (mine are grown-up now so i have more time).

I'm still working (by choice) - boss has been brilliant and says 'just do what you can' so i'm using work to keep my mind off things. But otherwise - well it's a rollercoaster of emotion!

Brilliant to be able to come on here though and talk to others in the same boat - so thanks to you both for just beign here x

  • Last week I was really anxious, but I went away with friends for the weekend and am much calmer coastal walks, hot tub, prosecco and ice cream. I feel better. Only 90% of referrals are cancer I think?. Also all the friends I know who've had it have had good outcomes so I'm more relaxed - for now!. I'm also keeping busy with work.

Take care and share news when you get it x

  • I've heard about my mammogram and it was clear - hurrah! I still have to go for an examination with the consultant and am awaiting that booking, so that's what's left to do. I hope [@Mummyoftwo2021]‍ that your tests go well today

     X

  • I had a itchy spot on my breast just under my armpit , thought nothing of it at first due to having a dry skin condition anyway but the itching got worse and I'd had 2 letters telling me I was due a mammogram so booked one , only had to wait a week for an appointment,  they said nothing at the mammogram only I'd hear thru the post , my partner went for hers a week later and gor her result a week later , I had to wait 2 weeks for mine but I didn't get a result I got an appointment letter instead asking me to go back in for another mammogram and scan , so a week later I went back, I had another mammogram and was sent for a scan , a doctor was there and said they'd seen something on my first mammogram thats why they called me in and she told me there it was cancer but needed a biopsy to confirm 100% she also told me a lymph node looked angry so took cells from that to test too , 1 week later I went back to get the results and was told I had stage 2 breast cancer and it was in the lymph node that they tested , 2 weeks after that I had a lumpectomy and they removed 18 lymph nodes,  2 weeks later I had the results and was told the lump was bigger and I had stage 3 breast cancer and out of the 18 lymph nodes,  13 were cancerous and also needed another operation to remove more cancer cells , I've also had to have a bone scan and having a CT scan 2moz (friday) they suspect its spread elsewhere , I won't get the results for the bone scan or CT scan until 2 weeks after my operation on the 22nd Sept.

The point of this is , they seen the lump on the first mammogram and didn't tell me

  • From talking to friends, who've been through similar, it seems that if they see something on a mammagram sometimes they tell you and sometimes they don't. I'll ask them when i go for mine (still waitng for appointment) what is their policy on this as i would rather know from the outset.

Sorry to hear what you've been through and are going through. Best of luck wtih the scan tomorrow. It sounds like they're being really thorough and checking everything out.

Hope you are getting some good support from your partner and others. Was your partner's mammogram clear? Fingers crossed it was and she is there for you at this difficult time. My partner is pretty good and helping in practical ways but not great about talking about what is going on.

    Love x
