Bleeding from nipple so worried

I have started bleeding from my right nipple since last weekend, it is mainly when I squeeze it white and red comes out and sometimes it is just pure red blood. I seen my gp and have an appointment with breast clinic next week. I am terrified that this is going to be cancer. I am only 29 and have two very young children. Gp has put me on amoxiclav incase it's infection. I don't think it's infection as my breast is not swollen it red or sore. I feel ok in myself. I haven't really had any pain bar slightly sensitive under my right nipple. I noticed no changes to my breast until today under my nipple is slightly indented and the skin over that area looks a bit paler than the rest of my nipple. Can anyone tell me from their own experience are these symptoms most like to be cancer? I am so scared and feel so anxious waiting for next week.

    Hi Sammy,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I know that this is a worrying time, but try not to get too far ahead of yourself. Here's hoping that this is just an infection and that Amoxiclav will have it better by next week. Only 1 in 8 who attend the breast clinic get a cancer diagnosis and the younger you are, the less likely it is to be you.

It is impossible to answer your question, which is why your GP has referred you to the clinic. You are likely to have an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy when you attend and, it is the results of these tests which will give you a definite answer. Try to keep reminding yourself that 'it isn't cancer until you're told that it is', as this should save you a lot of worry.

Even if it turns out to be, this is one of the most treatable forms of cancer nowadays. I myself have had 2 bouts in the past 12 years and I still lead a busy and fulfilled life.

I sincerely hope that it all goes well for you next week. Whatever you do, steer clear of the internet before then, as this will only scare you further and serve no useful purpose.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
