CIN concerns

Hello All

I'd just like to share my experience with anyone who is worried about HPV or who has CIN 1,2 or even 3 as I have been cured of CIN 3 in just 6 months and would like to share my experience wiht anyone who may be worried.  I was diagnosed with HPV in 2019 and was told that the the virus usually clears itself so not being a big worrier and in good health despite advancing years (58) I rarely gave it a second thought and got on with my life.  Anyway, a year later, when I went for my next smear I was a little disturbed to hear that I had abnormal cells and had to go for a colposcopy.  Well I was told that it looked liked CIN1 which here in the UK is usually left for another 6 months or year as was told this is usually cleared by the immune system too but when the result came back I was surprised and upset to hear it was CIN2 which meant the cells had to be removed by a simple procedure under a local anaesthetic.  So off I went to have this done and all went well and I healed up nicely but this procecure just removes the cells. It doesn't cure the hpv.  Anyway I did a lot or research on line and read about the benefits of the shitake mushroom so off I went to a well known health store and bought myself a small bottle of capsules which contained  a variety of mushrooms including the shitake mushroom.  My colposcopy result came back as CIN3 and by now I was getting somewhat concerned as this is the highest level of cellular changes though I must add not cancer.  Anyway in short when I went for my 6 month follow up smear I soon received the good news, My HPV had completely cleared!  I was delighted and continue to take these capsules still.  Now I cannot say that it was due to these supplements as it is possible my immune system could have cleared this anyway but definitley worth a try !

  • Welcome to the forum Susiepu and thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We're really glad that your CIN3 was treated successfully and your HPV cleared up but we just want to point out that whilst it's thought that some of the chemical compounds in mushrooms might strengthen the immune system, there is still no scientific evidence to suggest that mushrooms or mushroom extract can prevent or cure certain illnesses, including cancer, so shouldn't be considered as an alternative to getting treated by a doctor.

You can find out more about the research that has been carried out in to shiitake mushrooms on our website but if you have any questions our cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.
