Biopsy results after a hysteroscopy

Hi everyone

I had a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic yesterday lunchtime they were due to remove  & do the following whilst I was under ga

remove polyp

remove growth

remove fibroids

remove and replace my fibroids

burn my womb

unfortunately when they started it was worse then what the vaginal & ulterscans showed so they were only able to do a endometrial biopsy & replace my coil as they won't do anything else till my endometrial biopsy results are back

I can understand why they didn't do it but I had to ask the nurse when I was on the ward recovering  how the operation went who had to ring the gyro dr as I went in via day surgery & didn't see any drs afterwards

I am now worried as it worse than they suspected& got it in my head that  I've got womb cancer

, I'm 38 never had children & am overweight I have had problems with my periods for years , was till I moved & now got amazing gp who fast tracked me for scans & gyno referral & then fast track for ga

im also worried about having another ga & having more time off work to fix the original issue , I work for the nhs so it's hard at the moment in general but I have a very understanding boss

does anyone know how long you have to wait for the results for your endometrial biopsy as before I had my ga the gyno dr said takes 6 to 8 weeks & the very helpful nurse on ward  told me 2-3 weeks ? I think if I haven't heard after 2 weeks I ring my gp for advice

im now going to try & rest whilst im off work for next 2 weeks as due to my job been signed off as do a lot of manual handling

thanks very much for listening

  • Hello Bowiefan,

I think you've got the right approach in trying to rest while you are off work for the next couple of weeks. It's great that you have such an understanding manager. Try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be - I know it's easier said than done - as there are so many other things you could be dealing with.

Our website contains detailed information on endometrial biopsies and it is mentioned there that you would usually get your results within 2 weeks which is in line with what the nurse on the ward told you. I would follow her advice and ring your GP for advice if you haven't heard anything after 2 weeks.

I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have been in a similar position before.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine!

    Best wishes,
