Appoiment mess up heavy bleeding, bloating womb cancer

Hi everyone

So I went for my smear 3 weeks ago as I am on yearly check ups for abnormal cells, I mentioned my periods have been very heavy for the last 6/months so much so I can't leave the house some days, I have also had a couple of bleeds in between periods. I have some bloating all the time and urgency to wee and low level pain in lower tummy and back I also had a bleed after sex assumed these symptoms my be the beginning of menopause I am 47. I had bloods taken including CA125 all have come back normal except iron is low. Everything was quick blood test came back next day and appointment on 2 week pathway was booked the afternoon of me seeing her.

The appointment was meant to be today but I got a call yesterday to say they have booked me in to the wrong clinic (colposcopy ) and I need to go to a different clinic for scan etc. I have just rung and they have booked me in for the 21st sept.

I haven't been overly worried, but the last 24 hours my anxiety has gone through the roof, I think it's because I was geared up for today and now have another 2 week to wait. I have also had a look at Dr Google, i know stupid thing to do!!

Not sure why I am posting think I just need to get it out my head.

Thank you for reading x

  • Hello Cattini,

How frustrating that your appointment has been postponed. As you said, you were all geared up to go and now you have to wait another two weeks so it is normal to feel that your anxiety has increased as a result. You are totally right too, Dr Google is not a great ally in situations like this so stay well away if you can.

All you can do really to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie

Thank you for your message, I have stayed off google! My daughter has asked me to help her design a new kitchen for her so that's keeping me busy.

I have been given an appointment for a scan on the 16th September and then an Appointment at Hysteroscopy clinic on 21st September. Im  not worried about the scan but not looking forward to the Hysteroscopy if I am honest, I am hoping that I won't need it and scans will be enough to find out what's going on! Does anyone know if its normal to have a Hysteroscopy booked at this stage or is scans sometimes enough?

    Thanks again x

  • Hi,

I think it's good they have booked both the scan and the hysteroscopy. It will save an extra wait between the procedures. Everyone is different. I found the hysteroscopy fine but some people find it very painful. We are all different and it's important to be honest with the person carrying out the procedure. If it is too painful on the day they can rebook it so that you can have it under a general anaesthetic. I think they try it without first because it is well tolerated by many women (including me) but for some it is extremely painful. If you happen to be one of the latter it's ok. Just be clear with the nurse. They one I had was lovely and supportive throughout.

I hope it goes well for you and everything is resolved as soon as possible. It can be so worrying waiting.

  • Hi

Thank you for your message I am so glad it wasn't too bad for you, I think I have just over thought it after hearing some horrible stories! I am usually OK with smear etc so will put my big pants on and try not to worry. I will definitely let them know if it's too painful.

    Thank you again
