Abnormal lump on cervix

Hi I am 42 year old I had a smear 2 weeks ago they looked and got a doctor through am now waiting for the urgent 2 week cancer referral and they said nothing else I am going out my mind with worry over the last 2 weeks imaging every scenario I have a 12 year old daughter who I can't bear not to see grow up. I have no other symptoms that I am aware of had leetz back in 2008 smear in 2018 was clear but doctor had noticed a small fleshy lump but nothing was ever done about that not had new smear results back yet. Am going out of mind that I have cervical cancer.  I also have never had periods since my late teens due to being on the pill would this affect the symptoms x

  • Hello Ore,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your appointment. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there are so many other things it could be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Ore

Just wanted to let you know you're not alone. I'm been fast tracked to gynae (apt next Wednesday) after going to the doctor due to a strange bleed. She examined me and said it had come from my cervix. She had clearly seen something not good as her tone was forceful and serious. I've also had previous treatment due to an abnormal smear. My last smear was 2019 and apparently fine.  I just keep sitting thinking the worst... my anxiety is through the roof. I'm 44 with a 12 and 8 year old.

Hopefully you get your appointment soon.

    take care

  • Thanks for replying I had my urgent referral today the team were so nice turns out what the dr saw was the scar tissue from my treatment back in 2008 and nothing to worry about. I have went through utter torture this last few weeks imaging the worst but please stay strong and be positive I walked for miles each day just to keep occupied it is hard but we are stronger than what we think and remember drs aren't the expert and not always right xx h

  • Aw what a relief for you! So glad to hear that! I just want Wednesday to be here. I have just sat and googled (I know I shouldn't!) and it's killing me that I'm reading all the signs are that it's cc. I feel physically sick.

  • I did that as well I googled it and honestly it's the worst thing you could do. The 2 week urgent cancer referral route that I went down is a good thing but also a bad thing as you think the worst but they said only around 1 out of every 10 people that are referred actually have cancer so keep that in mind and good luck with your appointment sending positive thoughts to you x
