Biopsy Results

Hi there,

I had some pain on my scalp around 10 weeks ago.  My son saw a pinkish mark that within 4 weeks has started changing size and colour. By the time I saw dermatologist it looked dark brown and was irregular shape and 7mm by 5mm.  By time I went to have it removed (Friday 3rd) there was another couple of marks that had appeared at same area so all were removed.  I was told biopsy results can take up to six weeks.  Is this normal in 2021 or did I hear them wrong.  I am really worried about this as these patches changed dramatically in a matter of weeks.

    Hi ButterfliesMum,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am afraid that a six week wait is pretty normal for dermatology biopsy results.

I know that this is a worrting wait. Try to keep yourself busy to take your mind off the wait.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

As Jolamine has said, sadly a 6 week wait is currently the norm due to Covid. Hopefully, as things improve, the waiting time will also improve (it used to be 2 to 3 weeks).

Hopefully it's something that's easily treated but if it's something serious, the thing to focus on is that they have now been removed. Once they can diagnose it from the biopsy they can give you further treatment. They have been caught very early so that is also a plus point in the treatment being successful.

Try to distract your thoughts whilst waiting and hopefully the results will be back a little sooner. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,
