Red mark/spot on breast

A couple of weeks ago I found a red spot on the edge of my areola. I put some sudocrem on it and a few days later it had doubled in size. It doesn’t itch, isn’t warm and my breasts aren’t sore. Obviously I was so panicked thinking it was Pagets Disease or IBC so I called my GP. My doctor prescribed me a course of antibiotics and referred me to the 2 week wait cancer clinic. I went to the clinic today and the doctor said he wasn’t sure what the red mark was but he was sure it wasn’t cancer. I’ve got a follow up appointment in 3 months and I was told to keep an eye on it. I’ve been taking pictures of it on my phone daily just to monitor. I think I’ll most likely go to see a dermatologist. I’m just posting because I’ve seen so many posts on red marks etc and wanted to post my short story. I’m so glad I got it checked and even though I’ve been so stressed about it, I’m glad it’s done now.
  • Hi L.K.E,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's great to hear you've got this checked out and that the doctor didn't seem too concerned. Good too that you have a follow-up appointment to keep an eye on it.

I'm sure your post will be helpful to others looking at the forum in future, so thank you for taking the time to post it here.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi, in January this year I had red/pink patch on my breast which was also not sore. I went to the GP who gave me antibiotics and suspected mastitis. The mark faded and I forgot about it. 2 months ago it came back, I was then referred to the hospital and had a scan done, the scan showed thickening of the tissue so I then received a biopsy. Two weeks later the results came back all clear. I went back to my GP and she gave me Elocon cream to apply for 7-10 days, the mark has now faded almost completely! However sometimes shows for a while after a hot shower (strange!)
Please do not worry. I would ask for a scan to put your mind at rest, as if you're like me you'll be worrying all the time if not. All the best and please let me know how you get on. Prayers your way!
