Uterus lining 20mm - scared

Hi,

I'm looking to connect with people who have experienced similar symtoms and tests as me.

I have been having issue with my periods since last Xmas, i'm 44 and premenopausal although i have had some symptoms of perimenopause in recent months.

At Xmas i had a late very light period which went on for about 10 days, followed by 2 heavy but regular cycles. I was worried so paid for an ultrasound in January which was normal, uterus lining of 2mm, no cysts etc. The consultant tried to fit a mirena to regulate bleeding but couldnt due to having a very retroverted uterus. - I felt very releived and forgot all about it.

In February i was put on the mini pill and gave up after 3 months because i spotted on and off most days. GP advised a came off which i did, bleeding immediately stopped so i thought nothing more about it.

May to August i had no period, put it down to coming off the mini pill, i aslo had some hot flushes during day and night and put that down to perimenopause?

Mid August i started with a very heavy period which basically hasnt stopped since then, flooding, clots etc. Ive been on Tranexamic acid for 12 days which has stopped the clots and heaviness but i'm still bleeding. I've been for another utasound which has showed a 2cm simple cyst on one of my ovaries and thickened uterus lining on 20mm, no evidence of fibroids.

The consultant seemed unconcerned about it but said i need a biopsy under GA because he cant access it because of the position of my womb. He said it was likely hormonal but could be hyperplasia and he will fit a mirena when he does the biopsy.

I'm now waiting for an appointment for the biopsy and have been consulting Dr Google which has me terrified. I cant stop worrying and end up in tears most days and i'm convinced i have cancer.

Has anyone else been through something similar? Any advice? What were your symptoms and outcomes?

Thanks!

  • Hi Worrywart1977,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties you've been experiencing recently. It's good to hear you've had this checked out and also that the consultant doesn't seem too concerned - try to take some reassurance from this if you can.

Hopefully you'll find out more before too long, following your next appointment. Do try to avoid Googling it as the information will often be not relevant to you, and it tends to increase worries.

Hopefully you'll receive further replies here soon. If you'd like to talk things through, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
