thick endometrium

Hi,

I have endometriosis and adenomyosis, so have had a fair few ultrasounds, I'm currently on the progesterone pill and have been for a while. From my understanding it normally thins your endometrium, but on my last scan it measured at 8.7mm, in December is was 3mm. On the report it states uterus: slightly heterogenous. I'm not sure if this is because of the adeno of something a bit more sinister? I have been having spotting, and some random bouts of heavy bleeding, which is not normal for me on the pill at all. I have quite a lot of pelvic pain and heavyness, that goes down my legs and through my back.

Has anyone had any experiance with adeno and whether this sounds similar to you?

  • Hi klashby,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. My reply here will boost your post so a few more people should see it, and if anyone has similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon. Do also discuss this with your doctor when you can, as they will be best placed to advise.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses about this, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Ben,

Thank you I appreciate it. I have a follow up tomorrow, which is a bit unusual because normally I have to chase for results and she called me the Monday after my scan to organise it. I don't know at the moment what I would find worse either they tell me it needs investigating or I have to fight to get it double checked!

    thanks for your time

  • Hi,

Did you find out what slightly heterogrnous meant?

I have hyperplasia of 9mm on my scan today that is showing "endometrium appears slightly heterogenous in echotexture."

In July this was 15mm and echogenic

I am now so anxious and have reached out for answers from mu consultant but just wondering of your outcome.

  • Hi,

so hetrogeneous basically means the tissue is different from the surrounding tissue. Which can be a fair few different things. Echogenic means it bounces back the sound waves.

I still dont have answers, when I had my follow up my dr said to me its normal to have thickened endometrium when you are on the mini pill because you havent bled, which I questioned because I had been told progesterone was a treatment for it to thin it out. He spoke to another dr then told me he was referring me to gynae, I havent heard anything since!

it could be absolutely nothing but its always worth getting checked, hope you're okay x

  • Hi,

Tbank you so muchfor coming back to me.

Oddly I was put on the mini pill and have done nothing but bleed since. They have now put me.on the progestereone harmone the one that is not a mini pill. Because of all the bleeding.

I wonder if it's due to losing clots then? If I have shed some parts and not others. I have asked my gyne to review the scan as dr at hospital said not to worry.

I was biopsied and diagnosed with hyperplasia a few months ago and been on Noriday but all I did was bleed.

I really hope you hear something and get sorted soon, and thanks again for your help.

  • No probs at all!

My dr has finally done my referral so Im hoping they investigate for hyperplasia now. Do you have regular checks on yours? I think I read somewhere on here that they test it once a year.

I was taking tranexamic acid for heavy bleeding and it really helped, not sure if its something your dr could give you.

    all the best

  • So far I have a follow up in December, only say original appt in August. I have had another scan and the hyperplasia has reduced from 15mm to 9mm so in ways I'm a little optomistic.

I had the TVUS repeated in hospital stay for heavy bleeding and have had tranexamic acid through IV which really helped.

The TVUS was reassuring apart from the change in the way the endometrium appears. The hospital DR wasnt concerned, but also wasn't sure what it meant. I came home but have asked for my gyne to come back to me with advice.

Thanks for taking time to reply, it may be worth chasinh up? I was constantly on the phone to them and still am.

    All the best. xx

  • Thats good that they are keeping an eye on things. That defo sounds like a move in the right direction!

When I asked about the hetrogenous bit, he said to me most likely its Adenomyosis, so that could be the case.

Yeah I think I will do, its already taken two weeks for them just to send the referal lol!
