Extreme anxiety over smear test 3 years after low grade

Firstly I just want to explain I had a smear test back in 2018 low grade dykarosis HPV attended colposcopy was put back on a 3 yr smear call .. well it has now been 3 years & I am awaiting my smear test I'm so scared that the cells have got worse or thst that have turned cancerous I think about it almost every day & feel crippled with anxiety :( I suffer with GAD/ panic disorder anyway on sensible days I can put it to the back of my mind / calm myself but really struggling today I was just woundering if anyone else here reading has had their follow up from the same results or share some advice TIA

  • Hello CLH1991 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat!

I can understand why you are feeling worried three years on but as you have had treatment for low grade dyskaryosis three years ago, it is highly unlikely that your cells have turned cancerous. This is why the cervical screening is so important and needs to be done on a regular basis so that treatment can be done early. So it's good that they are checking everything again and hopefully there will be nothing of concern this time.

So try to put this at the back of your mind if you can and just attend your smear test as it is really important for your cervical cells to be checked on a regular basis but don't anticipate anything as chances are your results will be fine this time.

I am certainly keeping everything crossed that it will be the case!

I hope that you will hear from others here who have been in a similar position and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
