Convinced my Grandad has cancer...

Hi.

Unsure if this is where to post this, but I'm getting really stressed about it. My grandad went into hospital the other month after waking up with lots of blood on his bed that had come from true 'back Passage' and they originally said it could be hemmorroids (sorry I can't spell that!) and that maybe that could explain why it happened, however after being in hospital a few days they decided he needed to have a colonoscopy which he had around the 13th of august (i think, I'm not entirely sure)  and then maybe a week after got a letter saying he needs to have a CT Scan (I think on his pelvis?) and that's tomorrow. However I'm worried that maybe this isn't a bad sign as he's in his 80s and never had like bowel issues that I know of, but I've read recently about colon cancer being like a "silent killer" at times due to a lack of symptoms and I've got myself really worried. Any advice or help understanding would be appreciated.

thank you :)

  • Hello Emily123 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear about your grandad - it must have been very distressing for him to wake up with lots of blood on his bed but it's good that they have decided to carry out some tests and I hope that the colonoscopy was clear. How did the CT scan go yesterday?

I know it's really hard but as you are waiting to find out more, try to resist the urge to read too much online as this will inevitably make you feel even more anxious. So I would suggest you stay well away from Dr Google and hopefully it won't be long now before you get some clarity on what is going on.

I am keeping everything crossed for you Emily that it turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie,

thank you for responding! I'm actually unsure of if the colonoscopy was clear, and I'm not actually sure if he's aware of how that was either. Think he was relieved when the scan was over!

    Hopefully everything is fine though.
