mom might have bowel cancer.

hello,

i hope i'm posting this in the right way, i've never used this site before.

recently my mom had some normal blood tests done and the doctor called her a few weeks later and told her she was concerned with the results. her blood platelets were higher than normal and the doctor said this could be a sign of cancer, then she asked my mom if she'd been having any unusual symptoms and my mom had been, she's had diarrhoea a lot and there has been blood there too, she has had these symptoms for quite a while, over a year i think and she just put it off as hemmoroids. the doctor told her she was very concerned that it could be colorectal cancer and so she has a colonoscopy this sunday.

i'm just so scared, my mom is 46 years old and she's still so young and i don't want to lose her. i haven't been able to get it out of my head since the doctor called her. i don't know what to do, i've been trying to stay positive for my moms sake because i don't want to show her that i'm scared because i'm worried it will scare her.

i just keep sitting here and crying and praying for the best, my mom is my entire universe and i don't want her to go through this, i wish i could swap places with her so she didn't have to go through this.

will she find out the results on the day of her colonoscopy? if anyone knows that information.

  • After the colonoscopy, your mom will be told if they found any polyps or took any biopsies or if there were any abnormalities. If there are not, that is basically that. They will also be able to tell if they find hemorrhoids or some other things. If they do find polyps or other concerns, there will be a wait for final results. They may be able to give her some indication as to whether or not they think what they have found is concerning, but I'm not sure about that, as thankfully, when I had a colonoscopy, it came back completely clear other than hemorrhoids.

The doctor wasn't worried at all beforehand. He said that bowel cancer wasn't very likely at my age and I am 40, only a few years younger than your mum.

Hope your mum gets good news too.
