Breast abscess that won't drain.

Hi Everyone,

I posted a couple weeks ago about a breast lump, well I was meant to have a biospy a few days after my breast clinic appointment but unfortunately I came down with norovirus,  so appointment had to be rescheduled.

Fast forward  ...

The appointment was today, and I ended up having a core biopsy.  The consultant said he thought it was an abscess and that he would try to drain some of the fluid using a fine needle - he tried but didn't obtain any fluid, so he did a core biopsy as well.

I'm 51, post menopause, and this lump has me worried. The lump itself doesn't hurt, isn't red, hot or inflamed,  but I do get aching in that breast and shoulder blade pain, as well as armpit pain ... intermittent and never continously.

I'm just wondering if any of you can relate to my story.

The consultant still thinks it's an abscess  - I don't know what to think.

It will be discussed this Friday by their multi-disciplinary team, and I should hopefully know next week.

Thanks for listening :-) X

  • Hello Dazey70

I hope that you have some news from the MDT early next week. We know that waiting for results can be a particularly difficult and worrying time.

It sounds positive that the Consultant hasn't been concerned about any aspects of the lump so far. The large majority of women seen at breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer so try to hold on to this thought and stay positive.

Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you so much Jenn for replying.

Unfortunately the clinic just called to say that they need to push back my appointment another week because my results had not come back.

Obviously I'm getting more worried now because I was told they would be back today, and that it would be discussed at the MDT meeting.

I'm trying not scare myself silly.
