Oral Biopsy Results

Hi everyone.

My mom went for a biopsy on the 2nd July after her dentist spotted ulcers on the roof of her mouth. It took a month or so to get referred and luckily we got a cancellation.

At the time they discussed a papilloma between themselves and when my mom asked if they were concerned it was cancerous they said they didn't think so. But they took a biopsy anyway. At the time the consultant said it would be three weeks for results.

A week later she got an appointment for 8 weeks away, which just so happens to be tomorrow. I'm just wondering has anyone had to wait this long on results and still had a bad outcome? It's really concerning to me they'd let someone sit for 8 weeks on results that tells them they have cancer in their body.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

  • Hi Ann-Marie and welcome to the forum.

Sadly, the pandemic has had quite a big impact on the length of time many of our members have had to wait for their results and I'm sorry your mum has also been affected but I hope her appointment went well yesterday and her biopsy results brought good news.

If there has been anything playing on your minds since finding out her results then you're more than welcome to give our cancer nurses team a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m to talk things through.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks, Steph.

Luckily her appointment went fine and the ulcers are nothing but a formation of skin. Big weight lifted off our shoulders. This board has been a lifesaver reading over the last few weeks.

  • That's great to hear Anniemarie

I'm so pleased for you both and I'm really glad the forum was able to provide some comfort and support whilst you were waiting for the results.

    Best wishes to you both,
