Child with low iron and abnormal high haemaglobin

My 6 year old has had enlarged lymph nodes in his neck for the last 9 months. He sweats at night sometimes needing a change of pjs as he is soaked through, this is not every night. He lost a kg in a month just after Christmas and although putting weight on since, he is still underweight. He says his tummy hurts, although I know that this can be completely unrelated. He had a blood test in February which showed low iron stores but everything else was normal. He had a blood test this week which showed low iron stores, lower than they were in February it is 9ug instead of 22-322 ug. He also has abnormal high haemaglobin, and a high hypochromic cell %. My initial concern was lymphoma in January but now I am not sure, although he is not a big eater he has a healthy diet and eats his read meat and fruit and vegetables. Has anyone experienced symptoms similar?

  • I'm sorry to read what your son has been contending with over the last 9 months Sunnysundays. It must be very difficult to keep your worries and fears at bay when your little one is unwell.

Hopefully some of our members will get back to you soon but in the meantime do be sure to discuss your concerns with your GP and let them know about any changes in your son's health as they will be in the best position to advise and let you know what will happen next.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help but I will have my fingers crossed you're able to get some answers and peace of mind over your son's health soon.

    Kind reagrds,
