So scared

Hi I'm 39 and  went to the gp 2 weeks ago because I felt a lump in aerola. She felt something and said she didnt think was anything to worry about but would refer me to the breast clinic.I had my appointment at the clinic yesterday and the dr felt the lump. She sent me for a ultra sound scan and the lady who did it could only see tissue. She said wouldnt be able to do a biopsy as nothing to work on. She seemed quite positive  and said all looks normal. I was sent back to the drs room after and the dr said was clear but obviously a lump can still be felt. She has refered me to the breast surgeon in 2-4 weeks to see If anything changes and to see if they be able to get a biopsy.

I'm feeling so scared and have family history, 4 weeks seems such a wait.

Had letter today apointment in 2 weeks

Has anyone else had this where all showed ok on scan?

  • Hello Pink39

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some concerns about a breast lump at the moment. I know how difficult it can be when you're waiting on answers. The uncertainty can lead to lots of anxiety.

It's good to hear that nothing of any immediate obvious concern was picked up on the ultrasound and that they are going to see you again in a few weeks to see if there are any changes.

It can often help to talk to someone at times like this and I wonder if you'd find it beneficial to chat with our team of nurses. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support that they can ahead of your next appointment. If you'd like to chat with them they're back in the office after the bank holiday on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

In the meantime try to take each day at a time and not look too far ahead. Keep in mind that the large majority of women who attend breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer. Even with a family history, there can be many other reasons for breast lumps.

Keep in touch Pink39 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
