Oncology referral - No diagnosis

Hi all,

In April I found a lump on my pelvis and have been having pain in my hip and continued swelling (all on the right side). I have been back and forth with my GP and as it hasn't gone down he made a specialist referral to the orthopaedics. Originally it said you young adult hip replacement but my X-rays came back fine. I was then contacted by phone from the oncology department to say they had discussed me at the MDT and decided that they want to do and ultrasound on the lump. I then have an appointment with the oncology climb straight after. I have been trying not to worry about it and obviously I have not diagnosis so it could be nothing, but I have had to wait 4 weeks for this appointment and still have 1 more to go so I think it is now getting to me and I am beginning to worry.

I just wondered if anyone else had been in a similar situation.

  • Hello Worrywart3

I'm sorry to hear that you've had an ongoing health concern over the past few months. We know that waiting for tests and results can be a really difficult time and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

Hopefully, as you have a clinic appointment straight after your scan the team should be able to give you some answers on the day.

It can often help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment. They may be able to offer some advice and support and help you think about any questions you might want to ask at the appointment. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
