Should I make a formal complaint?

Basically after some time of weight loss and extreme fatique coupled with digestive problems, I've requested so many additional tests.

After coming up short with them, I've requested a ct scan through the nhs. This was initially denied but after frequent issues they finally granted this.

I realised the waiting time could be 6 to 8 weeks or more so decided to go private. This is were the problem is.

I'm waiting on my gp to refer me over to the private hospital but I've been waiting almost a week for this to be done.

The usually turn over for this is 48 hours. I would think they would want to sign off for this so I wouldn't be adding to the nhs que.

Is there anything I can do? I'm going to ring them today and see if they have sent the referral detail over for the private hospital.

If they haven't should I complain? It's ridiculous. I'm still going to be waiting at least 2 weeks private and my health is deteriorating.

  • I wouid call the surgery and ask to speak with the practice manager xx

  • Hi Mr K.

I have gone privately for my treatment and the onus for the referral to the private hospital was on me (not the doctors).

I called and asked them to print the referral they had done for NHS out and went and picked it up. I could then choose which private hospital etc to go to and make the necessary appointments.

If you know which hospital you want to go to, I would suggest calling them to ask what referral they need, sometimes for a CT then will want a referral to a specialist consultant. You can then make sure this is covered in the letter from the doctors.

This can ask be organised with the receptionist / assistants in 3 days and you go and pick the letter up. The hospital will then likely ask you to email a copy over when you make the appointment.

    Hope this helps.
