2 week urgent referral?

Hi there, I'm 23 & looking for some advice. I'm usually very good at handling my anxiety, pushing things to the back of my mind until it's necessary to deal with it. Other than what I am about to share im very healthy, not over weight or anything like that. I've been experiencing very intense abdominal pain, bloating, bowel movement issues from diarrhoea one moment to constipation, fatigue. Loss of appetite which has lead to a 2 stone weight loss between June & late July - amongst other issues which have been going on for almost 2 years but finally managed to get a doctor to listen to me especially after multiple A&E visits for the abdominal pain. I've had multiple blood tests done which only ever reveal slight abnormalities like high white blood cell count & have also received tests to check for infections.  I had an abdominal x-ray which I was told came back clear but had a CT scan almost 3 weeks ago. Today I received a phone call telling me that im on the 2 week urgent referral list thing & given an appointment date for the 31st August. However when I asked what for or what test would be done the lady couldn't tell me. Im now horribly paranoid that I might have cancer somewhere in my body especially as it runs severely in my family on both my mother & fathers side. Im just looking for someone willing to share there experience with the 2 week referral thing? What does this mean? Why have I been fast tracked for tests & what is the likely hood of something not good happening. Im very strong willed, what will, will be & I will face that bridge when I come to it. But some advice & peace of mind would be very comforting right now.

Thank you

  • They may just be doing another type of test to just check. I was on the 2 week urgent cancer referral, had ct, mri & endoscope, found a 19mm mass on my liver. So I thought well its cancer then. It's likely due to an infection and a liver abscess. Not cancer. They also diagnosed me with PBC, Primary Billiary Cholongitis, a liver disorder. So there are loads of conditions and things that arent cancer. The 2 week urgent is to investigate and rule out cancer and it's often not cancer.  Can you ask your gp if he knows what investigation they want to do next.
