I've have a had a mild back pain/ache that has been bothering me for the last 3 months, on the left lower/mid area of my back. I first suspected this was due to another kidney issue as my right kidney has previously been removed due to failure.
Initial blood/urine tests returned as being normal. I have persisted and had a physical examination from my doctor and he couldn't pin down where the pain was emanating from. However, following a recent blood test I've learned that my liver score was 28 (Normal score 21) and bone alkaline levels were low. I am due to be tested again this week.
My concern is that the back ache has been consistent and does not seem at all linked to physical activity. It just comes and goes, and while it is present it makes the rest of my body feel pretty terrible. I have a feeling of general unease in my abdomen on the left side too which is a more recent development. My dad has recently had cancer and the more things that are eliminated, the more fear I feel that there is cancer progressing in those areas. I haven't yet told my GP about my dad having cancer, I don't know if he sees it as necessary to check for cancer yet.
Key questions which I've not been able to ask yet:
1) Is a low bone profile (alkaline) score in any way indicative of the presence of cancer? The fact that the pain is in my back, close to the spine, feels indicative of something that could be present in the bones.
2) Is a higher liver enzyme score an area of concern? My fear is that the presence of cancer in the liver/pancreas would spread easily enough to pressure the surrounding organs and spine which may explain the issue with my bones.
My primary concern is pancreatic cancer. I do not like the timeline or progresion of this at all. The fact that it has already been months of discomfort, coupled with the fact that l could be another month or more away from receiving a formal diagnosis is making me incredibly anxious.
I know this sort of post may be difficult to respond to but I'm hoping to talk to people who may have had similar symptoms leading to their diagnosis, or who recognise the progression I'm experiencing.
Thanks.
