CA125 and scan

Hi,

I've been feeling bloated and fatigued for a few weeks now. Always had problems with my pelvic area over the past few years. Anyway, my GP arranged for me to have blood tests done. My CA125 came back at 79 (ultrasound this week). It wasn't my usual GP that I saw to go over the results. I'm a very anxious person and being told not to worry but it could range from a cyst to cancer has left the fear of god in me. I keep thinking what if I am sick... what if it's too late to treat....

Has anyone else had a similar story or have any advice?

Thank you x

  • Hi I've recently been through something similar,  I'd a ca125 level of 125. Thankfully everything turned out OK.  I have a history of cysts on ovaries and when I felt some pain, I went to the doctors who did the blood test and sent a referral for an ultrasound.  My blood tests came back before the ultrasound appointment, the doc red flagged me to the gynaecologist oncologist.  I freaked when I got this letter as I thought I had something serious wrong.  The consultant did a ultrasound which he thought he saw something suspicious on my right ovary and red flagged me for an urgent mri, I had this done 1 week later.  The waiting for results was the worst.  3 weeks later my consultant called me with the good news that there was nothing there suspicious or miligant.  What he thought was a cysts is just how my ovary now presents after previous surgery a few years back to remove cysts.  I have had another ultrasound which was clear and a repeat ca125 which has come back down to normal.

When I had my 1st ca125 taken I was on the last day of my period, I'm not sure if this was the cause for the abnormal result but a ca125 can be raised for many reasons.  I'm now waiting to see of I will be discharged from gynaecology as there is nothing wrong and my pain has also subsided.  I know its easier said than done when I say don't panic, it's natural to think the worst.  Many people on here have had abnormal results and had no reason for the levels to be raised, or they are raised due to benign reasons like cysts and endometriosis.
