COVID MODERNA VACCINE - LUMP ON LEFT NECK

Hello, I hope this comment finds you all well.

I am reaching out to see if anyone has experienced a similar situation to what I am going through, in general and/or following their covid-19 vaccination.

After my first Moderna Covid Vaccination, I noticed a small pea sized lump on the left side of my neck - what I assume to be my cervical lymph node. Im not sure if it was there before the vaccine, but it was only afterwards that I noticed it.

I wasn't too alarmed, but fast forward 8 weeks and the lump is still there and hasn't reduced in size at all :-(. I have visited my GP, and he referred me for the 2 week scan - however, the consultant explained that she would need to see me in person before conducting a scan, and the only available appoint would be end of September.. seems like a long wait!

After googling my symptoms online, I'm struggling to find any solution for the lump on my cervical lymph that isn't lymphoma. The lump is on the left side of my neck, around half way from my ear to shoulder. Super worried as I have a family history of cancer, and feel petrified that it could be what I'm fearing most.

For context; I am a 25 year old female, generally healthy - dont smoke, and dont drink much. But as mentioned, have a close family history of cancer.

Big big thank you to anyone who has had the kindness to read, grateful for any advice or support!

  • Hi OB123,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your worries although it's good to hear that you've got this checked out and that you have the referral. I'm sure September will feel like a long wait but in the current time with delayed waits for appointments it's not too bad. Try to take things a day at a time in the meantime and keep yourself busy to help reduce worries.

Lymph nodes can become more or less visible for various reasons so try not to assume anything at this point. If you feel you'd like to talk things through with someone ahead of your appointment, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Don't stress. I had exact same.

Moderna first jab had sore neck & noticed lump. Thought normal but weeks later it was still there. 1cm cervical lymph on left side & tiny one just above collar bone. Totally painless & moved about a bit. Ended up with blood test & scan & rated as normal lymph node. Nothing worrisome about either test.

Was VERY slowly reducing in size and...

Second jab - really swollen - exact same LN really big so you could actually see it & quite sore this time. That went down quite fast & is now same size as was before jab.

I was mega worried about it but the second jab was quite a nice confirmatory experiment in a way.

Get the scans done but please try not to fret. I had EXACT same.

  • Just to say google will usually give the most worrying explanation as that is the one most studies will be done on. Even quite minor symptoms have websites warning, "don't ignore as it could be a warning sign of *insert serious condition*". The minor ones don't tend to be discussed to the same extent.

Sorry to hear you have such a long wait. Hope you get good news.

  • Hey there! I'm 27 and found a lump that sounds similar to yours after my second vaccine, and same as you I'm not sure if it was there before but I found it after I got the vaccine. I went to my gp who said it was most likely a swollen lymph node, if it didn't go down within 3 weeks to call back, so I did and have been referred for a scan. I've been going out of my mind with worry, I googled which was pretty stupid but if I hadn't I wouldn't of found forums like this which has put me at ease. Hope all is well ♥️

  • I have a swollen lymph node on left side (between ear snd chin, just below jaw line) I like you, noticed after my maderna jab (however, my second jab) and like you, not sure if it was there before or not.
had mine for 8 weeks now, no sign of growth or pain. I have had my first bloods that had slight raise for inflammation and had my second bloods done Monday just gone to see if they are still raised or why have you...

I have an US next Monday so I will know more then and I hope and pray it is a reactive node and maybe all related to the jab.

I try to avoid Dr Google as much as possible but it is hard sometimes. I would take some reassurance that I have seen several posts like this here and many many of the people oj these posts feedback their results to being nothing worrisome. Just like NUFC1975 on this thread of yours! I'm very concerned as I'm terrible for thinking even the simplest cold could be my demise (not that bad, but not far off) my cousin has lymphoma Hodgkins so my radar has been heightened but...I don't have any other symptoms. So I hold some hope. (Any symptoms that could be contributed I ignore as I am 3 weeks postpartum!)

I really hope you get seen very soon, try try try not to panic and reach the wrong conclusions. I've been here so many times as I have lumps and bumps and cysts in so many places on my body and each one has a non sinister explanation.

    take care

    Kelly

  • Thank you so much for your response; and I'm sorry to hear you're going through the same thing. Indeed it is extremely worrying, especially after googling - I did the exact same!

I hope that all goes well with your scan, and that your mind is put to rest very soon :-). I have my second scan at the end of the month, and I'm hoping for good news too! Wishing you all the best :-)

  • Thank you so much for your detailed response, very grateful! Sorry you expericed something similar, always very worrying - but super positive that it has since disappeared! Crazy how the vaccines impact our bodies :-).

I have my second scan at the end of the month, and I'm keeping a positive outlook that everything will be ok! Wishing you all the best!

  • Thanks a lot for your response, youre totally right - google always jumps to 'worst case scenario'. Hoping to get some further clarity on a second scan at the end of the month :-). Thanks a lot!

  • Hello Kelly,

Big big thank you for your very kind response :-).

I'm sorry to hear you're going through the same worry, and totally understand why your mind jumps to worst case given your family history too :-( so sorry to hear. I am the same, and have had a similar experience :-(. I hope you have managed to get some further clarity, and super positive news regarding no additional symptoms! Very hopeful for you that it is nothing to worry about, and that your mind can be put to rest soon with the clear scans! Wishing you all the best!

For me, I have a second scan at the end of the month - and remain hopeful that it isn't anything to worry about!

    all the best :-)

  • Hi there,

I've just come across your post and not sure how you got on but would love to hear any updates.

I have also noticed a small hard lump on the right side of my neck that seems to be quite deep, but only about 1 cm in size.

Like you, I'm not sure if it was there before but I also had the Moderna vaccine a month or so ago. I really couldn't say if it's been there for awhile or not but it's only now that I'm really noticing it. I did have quite bad side-effects after my second vaccine and wondering whether it had something to do with that. I have seen my GP who has finally given me a neck exam feeling my other lymph nodes, and confirmed that it is a cervical lymph node but I do not have any other enlarged lymph nodes so to try not to worry. He has referred me for an ultrasound, not sure when it will be yet but hopefully will be reassured it is nothing. Hope youre doing better! And fingers crossed for us all that it was just a reaction to the vaccine!
