I'm 29 (female) and last night at around 7pm I went to give my right boob a little itch when I immediately noticed a large rock hard lump, as a felt around I realised it was about the size of a golf ball if not slightly larger. I have very small boobs (32A) I looked into the mirror to see I it had changed the shape and the lump has made my right boob look significantly larger. In the past I've felt a pea sized lump and my dr told me due to age it was probably nothing to be worried about.
as my mums had breast cancer I was naturally alarmed, so for reassurance I went to my local urgent care Center just to put my mind at ease. I was seen by a nurse who examined me, when I told her my family history and the fact there was no pain I could tell she was alarmed she called in another nurse and dr and they appeared to be alarmed to. All three of them emphasised it was extremely important to see my gp first thing on Monday and to also make it extremely clear that they have said I HAVE to be referred to a breast clinic for a mammogram ASAP. They put a lot of emphasis on this to the point it made me feel like they were afraid if I didn't do it, it could be bad. Although I am calm naturally ofcourse this is spinning in my head a little.
I'm not necessarily scared if it is the dreaded C word I'm more scared if my gp does the same as last time and refuses to refer me to the breast clinic based off of my age and age alone as he did last time. The pea sized lump I originally got checked out has never gone and this big lump is in the same location and as I can't move this lump at all I think the the two lumps are actually the same lump.
so I do have a few questions if anyone could answer,
if you found a lump at a relatively young age were you still able to get referred? And how long did it take to get an appointment once referred? And how long did it take to hear back?
also if my gp refuses to refer me what do I do?
waiting around for potential bad news makes me feel sick and sets my anxiety off alot. So I'd rather find out if it's bad news ASAP if that makes sense.
