Mole on side of foot

Hi I'm new here

I've had a mole on the inside of my foot for as long as I can remember it did look perfectly shaped at one point, over the last year it started changing never thought nothing of it until it started showings the signs of getting it checked out by my GP who urgently referred me to a dermatologist I got that within a week and so I went to my appointment he measured it 5mm x 8mm but he said he doesn't find it concerning but wants to do wide excision done which I have my appointment next week for that.

I don't know what to think should I be concerned as I'm 27 and it's on my foot which is unusual.. Has anyone has this experience before?

  • I'm glad you've had it removed & you are recovering. Keep off it as much as you can and keep it elevated. Take pain killers if you feel you need them & it should start to settle down over the next few days.

I hope you aren't waiting too long for the results and that they bring you good news. Please let us know how you get on

  • Hi [@AngieT]‍

its been kinda tough the last few days but it's starting to get easier I'm just a bit paranoid just incase it gets infected I'm anxious but I'm following the instruction leaflet they have given me so hopefully I'm doing everything right caring the wound.
I'm just a bit confused as I rang my doctors about the removal of the stitches but the receptionist has told me a district nurse does the removal but on my referral form for the removal says my GP Surgery which I said this on the phone and she's given me a number to ring.
So I'm a little baffled at this.
I will let you know on my results once I hear back :)

    Hope your well!

  • Hi Becks,

Every hospital trust is different when it comes to stitches removal. Mine were removed at the dressings clinic at the hospital & my groin/pelvic dissection dressings were done there too but some hospitals put it back to the primary care team to do it - either your GP practice nurse or the district nurse (these work from a central hub and are used by a number of different GP's in that area). The number you've been given to ring is probably for the District Nurse 'hub'.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can to prevent an infection and to help the wound heal. Don't beat yourself up should you get an infection as it can happen to anyone. I did everything I was told in hospital (where I was for 13 days) yet I still managed to get cellulitis on the 10th day! What is important is spotting it straight away & getting it treated with antibiotics before it takes hold. Watch out for any redness and heat in the surgical area. If the redness starts to grow larger that's when to call your GP.

    Good luck x

  • Hi [@AngieT]‍

The wound wasn't infected thankfully I did ask if it looked ok because this was my first time having stitches so I was just anxious, but they put me at rest and it all looked good.. but I'm not sure if it's normal because after I've done a bit walking my foot tends to swell and abit tender I know it's still healing.

However I've still not received my results from my biopsy as of yet, which is making me a little bit on edge at the moment I am going to give the derm a call to see if there's any updates.

    Hope your well

  • That's wonderful news Becks, I'm so happy for you. Thank you for updating us - every good outcome helps future members know that not all dodgy looking moles are malignant. All the best xx

  • Thank you Angie I'm so happy with the results and discharged.. but I am myself keeping an eye on few moles as well as I've got 2 small dark brown/black moles on my forearm if they change I'll be sure to get them checked out.
But going through this have learnt me so much and know what to look out for. :)
    Thank you again.
