Mole on side of foot

Hi I'm new here

I've had a mole on the inside of my foot for as long as I can remember it did look perfectly shaped at one point, over the last year it started changing never thought nothing of it until it started showings the signs of getting it checked out by my GP who urgently referred me to a dermatologist I got that within a week and so I went to my appointment he measured it 5mm x 8mm but he said he doesn't find it concerning but wants to do wide excision done which I have my appointment next week for that.

I don't know what to think should I be concerned as I'm 27 and it's on my foot which is unusual.. Has anyone has this experience before?

  • My friend had the same problem and her mole on the side of her foot got real dark, when she first saw it she thought it was nothing major, and it started to grow in size and realized something just wasn't quite right so she went to the doctors, later rather than sooner and after tests found out it was cancerous.  Going off what she went through and experienced keep on at the doctor's till you get a clear answer that it's all clear.  The sooner you get seen and a diagnosis the best chance you have of them operating.  Please let us know the outcome.  Sending lots of love and healing light <3

  • Thank you for your reply. Hope your friend is doing well.

I've got my biopsy this following week on Thursday.

Mine is irregular shaped, dark and light, looks like a speck right next to forming I'm not sure if it's evolved from the mole itself. I'm keeping myself busy and occupied best way I suppose, how was your friends healing process?

I will keep you updated also.

  • Hi [@Becks93]‍

plwase do ask for it to be checked again. I have a mole on my back that has changed and become itchy and sore. I've been referred to a dermatologist under the 2 weeks referral. It's been a week and I'm still waiting for an appointment. The waiting is awful and I'm really struggling to function each day and sleep properly.

please ask for a second opinion also take photos of it then you can compare

  • Hi [@Mummyoftwo2021]‍ thank you for your reply do you have the NHS App?
As I do have the NHS App and that showed my 2ww referral in there to see the dermatologist which a few days later my appointment letter arrived, get the app register and it should under appointments. I hope this helps you :)

I've got the biopsy this Thursday coming up, the only thing I'm really scared of is the needle as I have a phobia of them I have been taking weekly pictures.

  • Hi [@Becks93]‍

thatsnk for that, I've just downloaded the nhs app. It just says a referral has been made and if hospital do not contact me by Monday 23rd than to ring the number. I'm really struggling today.

  • Hi Becks,

It's good that the dermatologist doesn't think the mole is concerning but they are removing it because moles on that part of the foot are unusual. I was having a mole removed from my back when the surgeon saw one on the sole of my foot. He was only concerned because of it's location (it looked fine) but still brought me back 2 weeks later for it removing. Thankfully it was benign and I know a few other people who have had benign moles removed from the foot so hopefully yours will be the same.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Thank you [@AngieT]‍ for the reassurance I appreciate it.

I'm glad he doesn't find it all concerning and that it's being removed so I won't have anymore of a worry of it changing anymore than it already has, I'm keeping my mind busy and occupied as much as possible.
That's a lucky spot that they noticed one on your foot, I hope your doing well also.
What was the healing process like as I've heard wounds on the foot seem to take a little bit longer to heal? Did they give any aid to help you walk?

I'll be sure to keep you updated too, thank you again.

  • Hi,

I had no problem with healing & I didn't need crutches although I know some people do, depending on what part of the foot is involved (mine was in the arch). You need to keep your foot elevated, preferably above the heart, for 48 hours to stop it bleeding (a good excuse to lie on the sofa & be waited on if you are able)! Then a few days hobbling around the house without putting too much weight on it for more than a few minutes at a time. After a week or so it gets easier.
