Gastroscopy- sedation

Has anyone else had a gastroscopy with sedation but the sedation didn't work? I had this done today and I don't think they gave me enough sedative. I didn't feel drowsy or sleepy and I remember the whole procedure. I've been sedated before for a hysteroscopy and I definitely "drifted off" and can't remember a thing about the procedure. This felt nothing like that today. The nurse got in a tizz when I made an off the cuff remark about my husband saying I might have sleep apoena because I snore and before I knew it the consultant was trying to talk me out of sedation (because of risks with sleep apoena) and said I could have gas and air instead. I don't have sleep apoena!! It's not diagnosed, I haven't queried it with the GP, it was a simple remark and I've had sedation and 7 GA's before and been fine!! I think they gave me the lowest dose possible and it did nothing. Absolutely nothing.  I'm very annoyed as I was particularly anxious about this procedure and feel like my wishes were not properly respected. I have to have a repeat scope in 6-8 weeks and I am now petrified.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a positive experience with the sedation during your investigations yesterday. It's understandable that you're now feeling anxious about the repeat scope in a few weeks.

You may want to think about speaking with the hospital PALS team ahead of your next appointment who will be able to give you some advice and information to try and help you feel better supported.

I do hope that the results bring reassuring news.

    Best wishes,
