Lump not smooth had a biopsy

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had had a breast lump which looked on the ultrasound to be cancer.  It doesn't move and the edges are not smooth and the lady said it looks like cancer but she can't be sure until results come back.

Is there any possibility at all it could be something else?  I know usually benign ones are smooth.  I also had calcium deposits which I googled and it says this is basically an indicator of breast changes.

Also do they always do biopsy of the lymph glands as standard I read that they do and she did do one.

I'm actually not really worried for myself but I have two small kids one of whom has special needs and I just keep thinking about them and my husband.

I'm in my forties so not old and I also have PCOS i don't know if that makes a difference.

    When I went for tests the Dr that carried out the ultrasound said she was concerned about the lump because of the way it was 'presenting itself'. I had a cyst too which she showed me. She then showed me the lump and it was totally different. Whereas the cyst was a black oval. The cancerous lump was of no set shape and it had spikey bits coming off it like crab claws! It also looked like a firework had gone off inside it - white and lit up. Apologies for very novice description but that's what it looked like :) 

    I figured when I was there, that they see so many patients each day, they have a fair idea what they are looking at most of the time. I also had calcifications. Dr said that these on their own they are not often considered to be a problem. But when seen along with a suspicious lump it's another potential indication of cancer. 

    When I left the clinic I was pretty sure I had cancer. They took 3 biopsies - all from breast. Nothing from my lymph nodes as Dr saw nothing in those that concerned her. 

    I had my results 2 weeks later. It was cancer unfortunately. However, that does not mean yours will be. Only 1:8 referrals to clinic are found to be cancerous. That's a good ratio :) 

    This was in May. I'm now cancer free and having the necessary treatment to lessen the chance of any  reoccurance in the future. 
     

    I hope you get results soon and that it's not cancer. But if it is, the team caring for you will be on it!  You will be out the other side before you know it.

    Hello thank you for replying.  Yeah that's kind of what mine looked like and when she said I thought I doubt they would say that unless she was pretty sure.

    I was ok till I came out and then said what are we gonna tell the children and burst into tears.

    I know statistically the chances of recovery even if it is that are high and I know multiple people who have had it and are now fine.  I am surprised how quickly you recovered though that has given me some hope!  Nobody in my family has had it and I'm youngest of four so it's a bit rubbish really but what can you do!  My dad is also ill and my best friend lost her husband to cancer so the thought of having to tell them is actually worse for me than the thought of being ill if that makes sense!  Probably sounds crazy I know.  X

    Morning Honey 

    Yes it's totally rubbish! I'm the only person in my family to have had any type of cancer - EVER it seems! I have been 'Why me?!?!' on numerous occasions!

    Possibly the worst bit for me was waiting for actual results. I managed to convince myself it would be worst possible scenario. I burst out crying when consultant told me it was treatable! Relief was huge! 
     

    I had my op (lumpectomy) on 8th June. Total success. Kept most of my boob - even though it was 7.5cm area to remove. Lump was 2.9cm and calcifications took it to 7cm. Plus .5cm clear margins. Margins achieved first time so no more surgery was needed. They took 3 of my nodes and all were clear. 
     

    Because of my type of cancer I had a Oncotype test carried out to determine whether or not chemo would be of benefit. My score came back at '18'. Oncologist said no chemo needed. Hmmmmm. I did some research and found my score was not as low as I'd hoped. I decided to have chemo. Couldn't seem to let it go. I've had one round out of 4 and so far all fine. I will finish treatment with 10 days radiotherapy and then be taking hormone tablets for up to 10years. 
     

    I have no husband, 2 teenage sons and loads of lovely family and friends :) It's definitely an unfortunate 'blip'. But a blip is all it is. Once you know what you're dealing with and  how they're going to treat it you will feel much more in control. You'll have dates to work with etc. I totally understand about being more worried about others. I was the same. All my lot have been amazing. I've been able to be super positive though because all treatment has been fast and has been fine. They see that and it allows them to be positive too.
