Constant dull ache in leg

Hi there my name is Sarah and I'm 20 years old,

since 2019 I randomly developed this constant pain, it radiates from the end of my thigh down the front of my knee, down my front of the leg/shin and then foot. The only way I can describe this pain is a deep dull ache, I've had this pain for basically 3 years now. Some days it's not noticeable but it's there and then some days it's very annoying and painful almost as if some days it flares up. I went to the GP and I told her that I was worried that I had bone cancer and she sent me for an X-ray straight away as I told her how long I had the pain etc however the X-ray came back normal. I'm just so confused, the pain is constant and it radiates from half way down my thigh all the way down the front of my leg (knee, shin) into my foot. It's dull and achey, I'm so worried that this is bone cancer and it has been missed for 3 years and now I'm going to die. Someone please talk to me, I'm so scared.

  • Hello Sarahlouuu

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing leg pain over the past few years. It's understandable that you want answers and are concerned about what may be causing it.

You don't mention if you've spoken with your GP again since the x-ray to see what can be done to manage the pain or if any further tests are needed. If you've not spoken with your GP then do get back in touch with them as they'll be best placed to help with this problem.

I do hope you have some answers soon and that things improve.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there so sorry for the late response,

so after about 6-7 months of this pain I finally had the guts to call my GP, I suffer from severe health anxiety and doctors scare the crap out of me which is why it took me so long to call the doctors. I explained to my GP my fear that I could have bone cancer and the pain that I'm experiencing and she immediately requested an X-ray on my knee and hip. I had it done and it came back normal, she then sent me for an MRI on my lower spine, that came back normal. I'm laying here now with pain radiating from my upper thigh down the back of my leg and the front of my leg radiating from my knee down to my foot. I'm so scared that I have bone cancer, I can't stop crying with worry.

  • Hi there my parent has been diagnosed with bone cancer  recently and from what I've learnt you would really know by now if you had it 1. It comes up in blood tests 2. The X-rays and scans will show it and you would be sent to hospital for the pain it's that excruciating you can't walk  if you haven't checked yourself in for it .be thankful you have had these scans early and nothing showed that is a positive sign bone cancer is soo painful you wouldn't wait to see a doctor if it was in its advance stage because of the pain you would be in a and e

  • I am so sorry about your parent, I hope they are okay! I will say a prayer for them.

  • No they are not ok and going through treatment as you probably know it's incurable it will come back .even if you did have it they don't treat straight away as treatment can damage healthy tissue once you have done the chemotherapy or radiotherapy the stem cell transplant is what they do but treatment only puts it into remission a short while it comes back this type of cancer .Thankyou for your prayers
