Failed hysteroscopy

Good morning, I just wondered if anyone has experienced a failed hysteroscopy. I am 50, blood tests show I've gone through the menopause but I've recently had some bleeding. My consultant did a 2 week referral for a transvaginal scan, during which the sonographer could not access my uterus but could see a thickened lining through the external sxan.. One week on I found myself having an outpatient hysteroscopy. This was so painful as they could not access the uterus as it was blocked (possibly due to a previous ablation) I now have an appointment arranged for 3 weeks. The dr who attempted my hysteroscopy said he thought I would now need a hysterectomy. I'm getting really anxious and wondered if i could ask for a Ca125 blood test to check my levels. I am due to start a new job in September and I am dreading telling them I might be off for a few weeks. Thank you in advance for your support.

  • Hi Munich1860,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Firstly I hope that things work out for you and that you get this sorted before too long - if you need to take some time off then unfortunately there's nothing you can do about this and I'm sure they will understand, although I understand it's not ideal. If you have any questions about next steps, try to discuss these with your doctor or the specialist.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Otherwise hopefully you'll receive further replies here soon, especially if anyone has similar experience to share.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Good morning,

    Thank you for your reply

the Dr carrying out the hysteroscopy said that it would be too risky to do it by GA as the entrance was dp blocked and they wouldn't want to perforate any other organs. He said he thought my only option is to have the hysterectomy as it would be the only definite way of seeing what/if anything was going on. It's the waiting that is really making me anxious, 7th September seems such a long way off. My dad has just been diagnosed with large cell cancer of the lung with an oesophagus tumour too so just need my health to be sorted.

  • Hi, how are you doing? So I had my appointment on Tuesday and my consultant wants to perform a radical hysterectomy within 4 weeks, I had all my pre op done too. As you can imagine I'm in an emotional state right now. Can anyone advise on hysterectomy recovery please and how long the biopsy results take. Thank you
