Swollen Lymph Nodes for 6 months

Hi,

In February 2021 I noticed I had a lump in the back of my head and 2 in my neck so I went to the GP, they took a blood tests and checked for infections and I was fine, so they sent me in April to have an ultrasound on my neck and I was supposed to have a biopsy too so they could check for anything, but they ended up not doing it as my lymph nodes was too small at that time and they told me to talk to the GP if I had any other problems.

Fast forward to now, the lymph nodes in my neck have enlarged, the one in my head is still there, and one on my ear has come up as well as all the ones in my groin, some are solid and sore and others aren't. I'm sweating at night really bad and get very itchy too, I feel like I have lost weight and my appetite some days is completely gone I do feel hot and cold a lot. My mum decided to call an out of hours GP and he said it didn't seem like anything too severe and that's not a service they do and he said he'd send a letter to my actual GP ready for Monday as he advised me to see them.

I have coeliac disease and I'm 'at risk' of getting things like non Hodgkin lymphoma, and I'm really worried they'll just tell me the same thing again or not even be referred to my hospital for an ultrasound (as my GP has a bad reputation with things like this and mistakenly diagnosed my dad with something it wasn't and turned out it was cancer). Should I express my concerns to my GP or not?

  • Hello User16543

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing health concerns. I certainly think that as things have changed since you spoke to your GP earlier in the year that it's a good idea to speak with them again and let them know that you have more raised nodes and some other concerns.

If you're not happy with the response you get from your GP you could speak with the practice manager or maybe arrange to speak with another GP in the surgery.

I do hope that you get some answers and reassurance soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi. Thank you for replying,

I've been to my GP today and she checked my glands, weight and blood pressure, and she gave me a haematology two week rule referral, and I'm going to have some blood tests done in a few hours to rule out glandular fever.

She talked to me about certain symptoms and the possibility of it being cancer, which she apologised for and said it's only a possibility as she has no idea why my glands have been like this, but I am happy they are taking it seriously this time.
