suspected gynaecological cancer

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any shared experience or words of wisdom please? I had a Mirena coil which was in situ for four years. This is the third I've had and always got on very well with them. I had a smear test at the beginning of April Which was normal but almost to the day that it was done, I began spotting and pain in my right hand side, low down in my pelvis, this was accompanied by bouts of severe bloating under my ribs with excruciating pain like indigestion.

I went backwards and forwards to the doctors as the bleeding and pain gradually worsened. Each doctor said they could see the strings and weren't worried. Fast forward to the end of June when I saw a different GP, she actually used a longer speculum due to the fact that my cervix is anterior and high and discovered that my coil had dispelled itself, was partially perforated and she removed it! Basically, it had been that way for 2.5 months and cultures showed several nasty infections.

she referred me for a scan which I had last week and put me on the mini pill in the meantime. I've since had bleeding which I likened to a period and the pain is still present.
During my scan, the sonographer said that I needed a hysteroscopy due to things not looking normal but didn't expand further. Since then, my GP rang the next day ( Friday) and said that the scan showed air and blood plus a mass in my uterus. I now have a fast track referral to gynae for suspected cancer.

could this be scarring caused by the coil or would I indeed be possibly looking at cancer? The doctor said it is highly unusual to have air and blood collecting in the uterus and they need to rule out tumours.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice.
