Awaiting breast biopsy results but since had new symptoms

Hi,

Hope you can help. I had found a lump and expected it to be a cyst as I've just turned 40. I had a mammogram and scan on the 5th August and they took a fine needle biopsy then and there. The consultant afterwards saw me for 20 seconds and was extremely dismissive even though the scanning lady had seemed concerned although when the needle finally went in she said a part of the lump did collapse but not all I was incredibly itchy inside the breast after the biopsy, did anyone else experience this?

This was all 10 days ago and on Friday I have a gnat bite on the right breast where the lump is and part of my areola is puckered with ridges to the skin. The lump is still there even though she said it had gone down.

Should I report the new changes immediately tomorrow (Monday) or await the results?

Any advice or experiences appreciated. Thank you.

  • Hello SamanthaP,

I hope you get your results soon and please don't be afraid to ask your doctor any questions you might have. This will help you feel informed. Here are some tips to cope with the wait, which might be helpful to take your mind off things.

    Best wishes,

  • Dear SamanthaP,

Sorry to hear you are worried, these things are quite stressful I know as I have been through it before and also going through it presently.

My biopsies didnt cause me to itch but its really different from person to person.

Wont be a bad idea to report the changes that you newly notice. When's your results appt? Is it close now?

    Much hugs love

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

I called the hospital yesterday and my results were being discussed at their meeting later that morning. I told them about the new developments and the breast nurse said they would look at them when I am called back in with the results.

I am to expect a call tomorrow (Wednesday) with an appointment to come back in.

    Very nervous.
