Breast lump

Hey!

I'm currently 23 years old and on the 5th July 21 I found a lump on my inner right breast (referral says medical aspect). I got it checked over mid July as I was worried. The GP could feel the lump but had also pointed another one out too. She explained that I would need to see her again on the 11th August for a review and if it still remained she would refer me to the breast clinic. I went for the review where the lump could still be felt under the skin. I've noticed some other minor changes in my right breast including swelling.

Fast forwarding 3 days (today) the lump is harder to feel/find so I'm now stressing even more. I'm beginning to think my mind has playing tricks on me and that all this stress is going to be for nothing.

I'm currently awaiting for my referral to go through so I can have my outpatients appointment. I still need the Choose & Book letter to arrive first though.

Any suggestions on what could be causing this would be appreciated. Also, if the lump can't be felt is it worth going ahead with the referral or should I cancel and explain? I'm feeling very scared and alone.

Thanks,

Kelsey x

  • Hi,

sorry you're going through this. I'm also 23 and found a lump today so I know how you must be feeling. I would say absolutely go ahead with the appointment - it may well be nothing, but it's far better to get it checked for peace of mind if nothing else! I know I certainly won't be able to stop worrying until I get mine checked :(

hope it goes okay for you

  • Hi Kelsey,

You've definitely done the right thing to go to your GP. If it were me I'd stick with the referral and get a good checking out. It'll put your mind right at ease hopefully!

I've just had my referral appt this week and it was really thorough. All the staff made me feel calm and relaxed. I ended up with a biopsy but they've said it looks like nothing to worry about.

The waiting is horrible, but hang in there. You're on the right track for answers

    C x

  • Stress is a terrible thing, i am sorry you are going through this.

Different regions must do referrals differently.

My GP found a lump and the breast clinic phoned me, in the past for other medical issues i have had choose and book.

For your own peace of mind, i would go through with the referral, you may just worry over it if you don't.

How about, also, letting your GP know of the other changes.

Remember most breast lumps are not cancerous, i know it is difficult until you have been told all is ok.

  • Hugs to you also.

Have you had your lump checked?

23 is a young age for breast cancer, and most lumps are benign.

  • It's good they were optimistic about your biopsy and best of luck.
