Bleeding from rectum going on nearly 2 years

Hi im 23 year old female... for the past 2 years if not longer every time I go to the toilet to poo there is blood in the toilet and quiet a lot on the tissue when I wipe and sometimes there are blood clots .. I'm starting to get worried as it's every time I go to the toilet I've also noticed that I'm slit more tired and run down ... I haven't go to a doctor as I'm very nervous any advice or information would be helpful

  • Hi,

I have this too! Just to say, don't jump straight to cancer - at our age (I'm also 23) it's unlikely. My dad has chrons disease so I'm guessing I have some form of inflammatory bowel disease. It may also be piles. For either of these 3 options, go to the doctor! They'll be able to see if it's piles, and test for IBD or bowel cancer. Try not to google to much as it's all very scary

I'm going to doctors next week to be referred to have a colonoscopy so I'll let you know how I get on

  • As Maisym00 said, get it checked out. It could be a whole load of things - piles, ulcerative colitis, Crohns, an anal fissure, anusitis, gastritis... At your age and given that it has been going on for so long without too much escalation, I would say anything TOO serious is probably unlikely.

I just had a colonoscopy for rectal bleeding yesterday - turned out to be piles, which was what I suspected really - and when I saw the specialist, he said at my age, the odds of cancer would be less than 1%. Now, I am nearly twice your age and the odds go up with age, so I would suspect the odds are even lower for you. That said, it's best to get it checked out. It's likely something very minor, but just in case, it is anything more serious (which does not mean cancer or anything on that level, but things like IBD), best to get it looked at.
