Trying to prepare

Hi all,

I had my breast clinic appointment last week, mammogram was clear (but have dense tissue as I'm only 39), ultrasound checked breast lump and also found swollen lymph node. They took biopsies of both so I just have to wait until my results on the 19th August. The doctor was quite honest and said it could be cancer, the radiologist didn't offer any reassurance that it could be anything else, so I'm obviously thinking the worst.

I'm trying to prepare as best I can for results day and want to get the most out of my appointment- are there any questions that would be worthwhile me asking if I'm given a cancer diagnosis? And is it common to have large lump and swollen lymph node and it not be cancer?

Thanks in advance xx

  • Hi Lovely

    I did get your friend request. Only yesterday though xx

    I'm so pleased to have read your last. That's all hugely positive news. A shame the wait was extended though! At least they seem to have a reason - not just backlog! Also the fact that it will be removed within two weeks - fab! AND nothing in lymph nodes. Huge relief for sure.

    Let me know how it goes. Presumably it will be a lumpectomy?

    Love Sarah xxx

  • Yeah think so she said she'd just remove the mass and some calcifications around it, a small vertical incision, if she couldn't do it from my boob crease, I'll be under a general anesthestic, but should only be a day case allowed to go home later that day, ops about a hour long, 7 days recovery. She said all being well that would be it apart, from maybe an odd mammogram to keep a closer eye on me.

  • This is great news! Fingers crossed for you that all comes back OK after the op, but it sounds very positive xx

  • Well I had my surgery, ended up with an internal bleed and a second op to remove the hematoma and stop the bleeding, I'm still recovering (2 weeks later) the bruising was immense as the hematoma was left overnight growing bigger and bigger, I have another week to wait for pathology, she said it was a good lump removed easily but she had to go fairly deep and into my chest wall, a bit I'm trying not to overthink but it's hard not too, luckily the pain of recovering from the hematoma has meant I've only just started to think about what the result might be!!

  • Hi [@Lyns_]‍

    Sorry to hear that you've not had a straightforward recovery - fingers crossed you're starting to feel better now.

    There is an awful lot of waiting around for results isn't there! I've recenty had results from CT and bone scans - which both came back normal thankfully. I've got my 3rd chemo session on Tuesday which takes me to the halfway point and then hopefully the operation early January, I'm already nervous for the results from my op and I'm not even close to having it!

    I've got everything crossed that the results will bring you positive news - let me know how you get on xx

  • After 8 weeks of waiting I'm pleased to say it's a benign sclerosing lesion, no further action required, so relieved!!!!!

  • Oh that's fantastic news! So, so happy for you :)

    Go and enjoy life! :happy::grin::love:
