Lump on upper arm/bicep

Nearly 3 weeks ago I found a lump on my upper arm/bicep it's approx the size of a golf ball or a little larger it is hard and causes no pain or discomfort. I emailed the gp straight away to be given a telephone apt 2 days later followed by a gp appt at another practice under rapid access. The doctor requested a scann and for my surgery to contact me for bloods to be done. Gp surgery called next day and booked bloods for 3 days later. I received a call from my surgery to inform me the hospital has refused the scan referral  and at that time given no reason. I had my bloods done and only result was I  was low on vitamin D. I then asked what about the lump and she said I would have to get a gp to call you tomorrow. They called back today and I now have a go for yet another gp appt for the same issue. I have been informed that the hospital no longer scans soft tissue lumps but this is hard does not move and I believe seems to be attached to muscle or bone and seems bigger than when I first noticed. If I get nowhere tomorrow I need advice on how I can get this scanned privately as this is extremely worrying me.

  • My husband found a large lump over his muscle on his left arm several weeks ago. Saw doctor who said it needed a scan, but no appointment as yet. This morning, another lump has appeared on his other arm. He says the lumps are painful. What can we do if we can't get a scan appointment

  • I have just been fast tracked for the same issue: lump on upper arm. I had an ultra sound within a few days after seeing the G.P. (he suspected a soft tissue sarcoma.)  Then because that was inconclusive I had an Mri within 2 weeks. I got the results after 5 days.

Its clear! No cancer. Im so relieved.

Still have the lump which is causing pain and discomfort, so will need further investigations and possibly removal but its great news.

After reading all these comments,  I realise how lucky I have been regarding waiting times and being taken seriously.

Hope everyone on here has had good news too. X

  • Heya.

I was told it was a stage one mass. Not exactly the news I wanted to hear but not the worst either. Keep us posted on what you find out. Use a pen to make summary brief notes at each appointment in question here. Distract yourself as much as possible. Find a new hobby. After a few imaging tests including a bone biopsy I learnt what was happening. Make new friends. Welcome to the forums. Call the helpline next week to see if you can speak with the nurses (0808 800 4040) as an extra resource.

    Best wishes.
