CA125

I have a raised CA125 was 53 now 64.5 also 4cm mass and free fluid on ovary My consultant has stated she will recall me in 3 months for more bloods and another scan. Said she will not operate as I have had extensive surgery in past.  This is now worrying me.  If it is cancer can I be treated or not.

  • Hi,

I've recently went through something  similar with raised ca125 although I was fast tracked and red flagged for scans and mri due to elevated ca125 @125.  If the consultant thought it was something sinister I don't think they would wait and see you in 3 months.  It would be dealt with sooner than that.

At my 1st appointment with a gynaecologist oncologist he did an internal scan.  He thought he saw something suspicious on my right ovary and some free fluid. He red flagged me for a mri.  This came back with nothing suspicious and no cyst other than a 2cm simple cyst on my left ovary.  Also a small incisional hernia was seen from previous surgery to remove cysts.

Have you had an mri?  This can usually tell a consultant if there is anything suspicious looking going on with the cyst?

My consultant had other tumour markers done, they came back normal only ca125 raised.

I have had this taken again today and will get the results hopefully next week.  I have also had another ultrasound done today and nothing  suspicious showed this time‍♀️.

My consultant said he will follow up on my bloods and we will take it from there.

I'm not sure why the consultant would say they can't operate on you if need be.  If your not happy or worried ask for a second opinion.  You are entitled to one.  It's your health.  Hopefully the consultant isn't that worried about what they have seen.  I think they really only remove ovaries or cysts is there is a suspicious cyst or it's over a certain size.  I have had dermoid cysts in the past and they only removed them because they were growing my ca125 levels were normal at that time.

I know it's easier said than done, not to panic or worry.  I had to get anxiety meds of my gp as I panicked that much about my situation.  Its an awful worry, and the waiting feels like forever.  Hope you get more answers soon.

  • Thank you. I had bloods done and a vaginal scan at last appt 4 weeks ago.  Only just had results where it is raised again.  My concern I suppose really is where she said that she will not operate unless life threatening due to the amount of previous surgery  eg bowel and hysterectomy.i am also in remission for breast cancer. I am 68 and no longer in menopause.
