    Hi Mattocks,

I know just how worrying it is waiting for results and, six weeks is a long time to wait. I am glad to hear that you phoned the consultant's secretary yesterday an,d that she told you that something was on the system. If they are on the system, you should be hearing soon. If you don't, then phone the secretary again to see if the letter you received was sent out in error. It is unusual to get a letter for treatment that you've already received, so I wonder whether or not the wrong letter has been sent out?

I sincerely hope that you hear soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Here's hoping for good news!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

It sounds like you received a copy of the letter a consultant sends the GP to inform them of what has happened so far. They will send a further letter to the GP once you have been informed of the results and you will receive a copy of that too.

Your results have obviously been received but they may still be waiting to discuss them at the MDT (Multi Disciplinary Meeting). This is done in all cases, good or bad, so that the dermatologist, plastic surgeon, oncologist and nurses can discuss each case & agree on the next step or plan of action. If the results are benign, they will agree to discharge you. If it was a dysplastic (atpical, pre-cancerous mole) they will agree to possibly monitor you & they may want to excise a further margin of tissue. If malignant, they agree to do a further excision (wide local excision) and depending on the depth of the mole, possibly offer a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy. They will then contact you, either with an appointment for a face to face or by telephone or letter (most consultants don't use this method though). MDTs are held once a week so your results may not have been discussed yet. I suggest, like Jolamine, that if you haven't heard anything by next Friday, ring the secretary again & they may be able to indicate how soon you will hear from them.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
