Ent Urgent referral after mass found on MRI

Hi everyone,

I'm trying not to worry as I'm not sure what's going on but not knowing is fuelling the fire.

So long story short I went in for an MRI last week, this was to look at my spine for arthritis. The scan (which put the fear of God in me) was fine, no arthritis but they did find a mass in my neck according to the letter I received today.

I have been redirected to Ent surgeons on an urgent referral and need to go in for an ultrasound scan aswell.

I'm extremely worried and I'm not sure what to do, I have no infomation just a short letter saying I have a mass and here is your ultrasound appointment plus ent appointment will follow shortly.

I dont really know what to expect, has anybody had similar experiences?

  • Hello Inkdcherry,

A warm welcome to our forum! I can imagine it must have been a real shock for you that they discovered this mass on your neck when you really didn't expect this. Not having any information on this must be so hard but unfortunately the only thing you can do for now is wait for this ultrasound and ENT appointment.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are some helpful tips on this page on how to cope while waiting for news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
