Referral to Breast Clinic and waiting times in Scotland

Hi. I'm wondering how the waiting times are now in Scotland with regards to Covid??

I have been referred to the breast clinic in Aberdeen today and my GP says they expect I will be seen within 3 weeks.

I don't have any obvious lumps but have had some breast changes for the last month now. GP last week advised a course of antibiotics after a telephone appointent, with no effect. After a physical exam today she is now referring me to the clinic as very unsure what's going on. Over the last month I have been experiencing axillary pain in my right breast and up towards my armpit, and it has increased a bit in size. Area is very tender and constant discomfort. It's non-cyclical as had a hysterectomy early last year and only affecting me in a particular area of one breast.

Is there anyone on here with something similar. Am of course worried if could still be something sinister even without a lump.

    Hi Billie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Waiting times to be seen at the breast clinic should be within 2 weeks of your referral, but, due to Covid at present, it can take a little longer in some parts of the country. It is good news that you don't have any obvious lumps and, it is unusual for breast cancer to be accompanied by pain, so here's hoping that there is nothing sinister.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Billie,

I'm Scotland but a bit further south than you. From my GP appointment it was 10 days until I was seen. I had GP on the Monday, letter in the post by Wednesday for the clinic the following Wednesday. The GP also told me it would be "a few weeks."

Mines was an obvious lump just to the side of my nipple. At the breast clinic I got an ultrasound and then a biopsy. Waiting for those results now too.

The wait is agonising, I hope you get your appt soon. Keep us posted

  • Hi, I waited just 7 days - but phoned and said I could take last minute appointment. ( north east England )

I've got the awful wait for my biopsy results tho, which I think is worse.
(Found lump- measured 3cm lump on mamogram)

    Keep positive

  • Hi Effie, looks like we're in the same boat!

The consultant said 2-3 weeks for results but the nurse said within a week. They said it would either be a phonecall or letter with results or an appointment so I really have no idea

  • Hi Effie,

I got my results today after ringing them up. They said a letter is on its way but she told me over the phone that its benign and no further action required.

What a relief. Hope you hear soon xx
