CIN 3 and HPV for 9years

Hiya,

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, really struggling to see an outcome.

9 years ago I had an abnormal smear cin3 and tested positive for HPV. Had a colposcopy done, was up and down from the hospital every three months for treatment. After 18 months I was discharged and put on a yearly smear. The first one came back fine but still showing HPV, every smear I have had since had been no changes but HPV was still present. I have had a smear every year for the last 3 years still HPV but this time the cin3 is back. I did ask my nurse why I've not been able to clear the HPV with in 9 years and she just didn't know. I'm due up at the hospital for another colposcopy on Wednesday. I just don't understand why I can't clear the HPV, has anyone else been the same ? Worried also that the cin3 is back.

I did ask about an hysterectomy last time but was told I was to young (was 26) now at 35 I'm still considering it as to me it makes sense if there is nothing there to infect as I can't get rid of the HPV.

Sorry for the long post.

  • Hi Zoelou

Just one point to make-a hysterectomy will not get rid of HPV, and it’s not quite true to say if there’s nothing there, there’s nothing to infect. It’s still possible to have abnormal cells without a cervix, in your vagina, vulva etc, so even after a hysterectomy you would still require check ups, it would be wonderful if a hysterectomy were a cure all, but unfortunately it’s not.
