CIN 2 and positive HPV result

Hello, again.
so I had my results from my biopsy, and it came back with HPV and CIN2 so loop excision is on Tuesday, what I'm wondering is, when I had CIN3 removed 12 years ago I didn't need anymore treatment thank fully, does anybody know wether at CIN2 there is a possibility of needing more treatment and this might sound stupid as I don't really understand it all, once my cells have been removed and sent off, does that determine wether I have cervical cancer?

thank you

  • Hi Rach

The cells which are removed will be tested to confirm the CIN2 diagnosis. Hopefully they can be removed with the loop procedure, but it’s possible to require a further one if clear margins are not obtained-ie not all abnormal cells  are removed.

HPV causes the CIN (which can be CIN1, 2  or 3) but it’s important to remember that none of these are cancer-they are pre cancerous abnormal cells so it would be highly unlikely to receive a cervical cancer diagnosis based on a CIN2 biopsy result.

HPV itself cannot be cured or removed but it can be active or dormant within your body, and when it’s active it can, but doesn’t always, cause abnormal cells. It’s just  unfortunate that your HPV must have become active again. Hopefully your treatment will remove everything an£ you’ll be absolutely fine. Keeping your immune system as healthy as possible is the best way to try to keep the virus dormant in the future. Best of luck!
