Cervical inflammation, what happens at referral appointment?

HI everyone.

scared, been to Drs about pain in lower back pain and stomach cramps and feel like needing to pee but nothing much comes out. Water sample was clear so Dr did internal and said I have inflammation on cervix and referred me for urgent appointment.
I'm so worried. I've cried and naturally think the worst.  What do they do at the appointment? If you need a biopsy do you get anaesthetic?

thank you in advance x

  • Hi have had a cervical erosion in the past, it always seems to come back.  I had it cauterised before, but after having more kids it came back.  They basically just do an internal and just as if your getting a smear, they cauterise it.  I think they used a long cotton bud with the stuff to cauterise it at the end.  It wasn't uncomfortable or anything and only took a few mins all in.

  • Thank you. I'm so worried

  • I know, I was the same when it happened to me.  I had googled everything about cervical cancer.  They might have to do a biopsy, I've never had to have one done as the gynaecologist was able to say then and there what it was.  Gynaecologists probably see this all the time and should be able to say by looking if something looks sinister or not.  If they do need to do a biopsy I know lots of people that have had it done and said it's not to bad.

Hopefully you get your appointment through soon and you can put your mind at rest.
