Anaemia and lump found up rectum

Hello all I hope its OK to post here, but I'm just needing an outlet really so all these thoughts aren't going around my head!

So 1.5 weeks ago I tried to donate bloods, but was told my iron was low and to make GP appointment for a blood test.  I did this, and finally bit the bullet and completed an online consulation due to around 6-9mths of issues with my bowels.  The GP added additional bloods and also stool samples.

My blood tests were on Friday 30th July, 0915, and by 1600 I had had a phonecall from my GP saying my iron was dangerously low and I needed to attend A&E ASAP.  I had just set up camp with my boys for the weekend so choose to stay camping, and head home day early to attend A&E.

Additional blood tests were taken, along with an internal examination due my bowel symptoms. Which were bowel movements varying from constipation, to dirrohea, pressure in my bottom, evidence of mucus and blood at times in my stools, bloating and stomach cramping.  The doctor finished my rectal examination, and said "I'm worried about what I've just felt. I've felt a lump about 2 digits in, and I'm worried about you." He said he would refer me on the nhs 2 week referral pathway to the colorectal team.

My blood results showed haemoglobin levels of 72. Therefore I had an iron infusion and expected to wait around 2 weeks for my follow up.

On Monday 2nd I got a phone call from Endoscopy department telling me I had an appointment on Thursday 5th for an colonoscopy. I was shocked it was so quick!! The nurse who called me explained that my referral had been put through as urgent.

I'm scared of what might be.  I'm 37, single parent to an 8yr old and 4yr old sons.  My other bloods have come back positive for celiac disease, so I'm trying to stay positive that this is the answer to everything, but obviously need to also be prepared for other outcomes.

So my colonoscopy is at 1415 tomorrow, I'm now fasting and just away to begin bowel prep in 20mins.

Just hoping others can share their experiences with me really. Thanks in advance.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, jentel83, although I'm sorry to hear about the reason that brings you here.

Since no one replied to your post yet I thought I might stop by and ask how you're getting on after your colonoscopy yesterday?

Please come back when you find a minute and give us an update. We're keeping our fingers crossed they didn't find anything to worry about.

    All the best,
