Worried about ovarian cancer

Hi everyone,

I have had constant back and abdomen pain (like a dull ache) since the start of my last period which was 4 weeks ago which all of a sudden spurts into a strong pain almost like a liquid rushing between the front and back. My stomach is swollen and has been for a few months... and I cannot even fit into some of my clothes!

I went to the hospital on the weekend because it got so unbearable and the codeine they had given me didn't work for the pain and the doctor felt my stomach and said "well I can't feel anything". So he sent me home.

They tested my urine and there was no infection, I'm not pregnant either... but no one seems to be showing any interest. I am in so much pain I can't even stand properly.

I am just wondering whether anyone else has had similar and obviously I know I am young (i am 33) and it's uncommon in my age but something in the back of my head keeps saying to persist.
I also don't want to waste anyone's time. I never really seek medical help...

this is definitely not normal... I'm just a bit concerned

  • Hi, have you tried talking to your own doctor?  I would make an appointment and discuss with a GP - I find they often look deeper and refer if needed more so than A&E.  You're not wasting their time - take care x

  • Hiya!

thanks for replying, yes I do have a GP appointment this afternoon now. I have kept a note of the pain and times etc. So fingers crossed she will look into it further.

  • Hi there..no it definitely doesn't sound normal! It doesn't matter that you are 33..you know your own body and if you think that there is something wrong then push for some attention or you will be passed by.

I can really sympathise with you..was exactly the same 3 days ago..the pain is excruciating..I described it to labour pain..I  am 50 and cried like a baby. I found out I  have an enlarged uterus with thickening of the skin inside every month and a fibroid...currently waiting to have it removed.

If you haven't had any tests like ultrasound or ct please insist on them..its your body and you that matters. Still in pain so I'm there with you!! Tori x

  • Glad you've got an appointment! I saw my GP on Monday for similar reasons - she booked me in for an urgent blood test, I had that this morning!  I feel I am being looked after and that she will follow up / look into things further for me.  I will see what the blood test result comes back with (hoping to get that this week).  Hope all goes well with your appointment.  I mentioned the pains/symptoms and she physically examined my abdomen at my appointment.

  • I've been to the GP and she said it could be IBS.. so she is prescribing me some medication.

she has also booked me an ultrasound and a blood test for CA125. So fingers crossed this will be able to give me some answers soon.
    xx

  • Thanks so much for your reply. It does make me feel better knowing it's important to be adamant. The GP has sent me for CA125 blood test and an ultrasound. So fingers crossed I can get some idea....

she thinks it could be IBS but from what a lot of other people have said, they tend to assume IBS initially. We'll see.

    thanks again xx

  • It's good she's booked you for an ultrasound and blood test - I've just had the CA125 test too (I had the ultrasound previously, which showed a fibroid, but I'm sure there's something else).  I've also been booked for another ultrasound too.  Fingers crossed we'll both get answers very soon!  Take care xx

  • Hi

I called my GP and receptionist said my bloods were back and that my CA125 was normal but my full blood count was abnormal and some of the other results my GP wanted to discuss with me.
so she has booked me an appointment for next Friday- 20th.
which seems a little long but I am assuming that means she can't be too concerned. my symptoms have remained and now I find myself going to the toilet a lot..(number 2 ) constantly throughout the day.

I suppose I will just wait for my ultrasound to come through as well.

    thanks Chloe

  • Hi

I've now received a call back regarding my CA125 too, which unfortunately is abnormal/high, but the rest of my blood count was okay aparently - I know all the results can be affected by different things though, so trying not to worry too much.  I've also been booked an appointment for next Friday 20th, mine's for a scan and then to see the doctor afterwards.

It does seem a long wait for us until the 20th doesn't it - glad we've got dates booked in though, so we know we're going to be seen and can discuss results.  Hopefully your ultrasound scan date will come through for soon too.

    Take care x
