Fit score of 400 and very scared!

Hi there just looking for some reassurance really.

I've probably noticed blood in my stool and sometimes on the paper for a few years now.

I've not had any other symptoms at all and because of that and being a typical bloke I've always self diagnosed as nothing to worry about.

Nothing physically has changed, no weight loss, stomach cramps literally nothing barring bright red blood on the paper occasionally and visual signs of some blood in the stool.

I don't know why I waited but something just dropped, maybe age, I'm 46 now and I decided to get it checked out.

After a couple of rectal examinations by my GP nothing was found and after a course of suppositories nothing changed.

They advised a stool FIT test to rule out anything nasty.

The stool test failed as I knew it would and I've been told my score was 400.

I've had a call from a collecteral nurse this morning who is going to book me in for a colonoscopy sometime next week.

She was very nice and obviously told me not to worry as it could be lots of things but I can't help fearing the worse.

Just wanted to know if any other people have had high scores that turned out to be harmless?

Besides myself with worry as I have 2 young kids.

Any help or positive outcomes from similar situations greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Andy

  • Hi Andy,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear you've got this checked out and that you have another appointment to come. Hopefully it won't be long to wait to get the answers you need.

If you feel you'd like to talk things through, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Otherwise if there are others here with similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Andy,

did you have a colonoscopy if so what was the outcome? My husband is currently waiting for one and seems similar to you.

    thanks

  • Hi Andy

I also had a FIT score of 400 and was very worried. However I went for a colonoscopy and the results came back as normal and healthy - no biopsies needed to be taken or polyps found.
It is definitely worth doing the colonoscopy, that way you will hopefully get the answers you need. Good luck with everything!
