Hi,

Usually this happens when the cells in the tissue sample don't look obviously benign or malignant. It may be down to the size of the tissue sample or that the cells aren't the uniform shape of benign or malignant cells. It happens more regularly than you would think & they have to send it to another histology lab at another hospital more expert in this type of case for a second opinion. I know of one person whose tissue sample was sent to a third hospital in Amsterdam for a decision! It means the wait for a result will take a little longer but they need to ensure they come to the right decision. I hope you aren't wait too long & that it brings you good news. unfortunately we got some bad news that my husband has a rare form of cancer, they have removed 3 more moles and they have to send them off for investigations as there is little information about it at present. 
I'm not really sure what happens from here as it's all so raw.
