Lymph node in groin

Hi all,

I'd like some advice/opinions on some severe anxiety I'm having right now regarding what I believe to be a lymph node in the right side of my groin.

I'm quite fit so I can feel quite a few lymph nodes in this area anyway, however there is one in particular which feels different from the rest when I feel it. It's not particularly large (definitely smaller than 1cm) but it doesn't move as well as the others when I have a feel. This is only the case when I'm stood up, when I feel the area when I'm laying down I struggle to feel the node at all and when I can it feels quite mobile. The reason I say this is because from what I've read online about how to check the nodes in your groin, it's suggested that laying down relaxes the muscles, thus making it easier to feel any abnormalities. Is there a possibility that the reason I can only feel this lump when standing is because it gets caught on a muscle or something?

So in summary, I can feel this immovable lump when I'm standing but it virtually disappears when I lay down. I actually saw my GP two months ago about this lump, he felt the lump and was very quick to say it was absolutely fine. I had blood tests first which came back normal and before he'd even felt the lump he was telling me it was fine! I got pretty worked up as I was in and out of the door in less than 2 minutes and I've still managed to convince myself that there's something the matter. From what I can tell it hasn't changed at all since this doctors visit, and I'm suffering no other symptoms but I've always struggled with bad anxiety so would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks!

  • Hi Denmarkian,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your worries although it's good to hear the doctor didn't seem too concerned.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with our nurses - if you'd like to do that, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Ultimately though it will only be your GP who can advise on the situation, so if you remain concerned then the best thing is to see your GP again. You can ask to see a different doctor if you don't want to see the same one again.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
