Red spots on breast, scared it's IBC

Hi everyone, I noticed a red patch on the outer edge of one breast about a month ago and assumed it was a bug bite until it had been there for a while and I started to worry. Then my nipple started itching really bad and I got some red patches around the nipple. The doctor gave me Daktocort cream - to be fair the itching and the red spots around the nipple have calmed down but the original red spot is redder and bigger than ever. I now have another tiny red patch elsewhere on my breast.

I was given an urgent referral by the nurse but I have a week to go till my appointment. I've googled it and inevitably come up with IBC so now I'm terrified and everytime I look at the red spots I feel more convinced that something is really wrong. I've never had anything like this. It's flat against the skin and not itchy, sore or scaly - about 1cm wide. It just looks like a bug bite but it's been there ages.

I just wondered if anyone has had anything similar that has turned out ok? I'm so worried I don't know how I'm going to get through the next week to the appointment.

  • Hi Daisy_chain,

Waiting for referrals is always so, so, tough but I hope it helps to know you're not alone as so many of our members are in a similar position so will know what you're going through at the moment and will hopefully pop by soon to offer their support and share their experiences and advice.

In the meantime, I hope this information we have on urgent referrals and this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help steady your nerves and get you through this next week.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k Daisy_chain.

    Kind regards,
